Grandfather Clocks And The Times To Remember
The grandfather clocks continue to give American households a sense of tradition. This is passed on from one generation to the next. Despite the arrival of newer and avant-garde competition, these clocks continue to endure.
Times To Remember
Historical documents recount the arrival of English settlers into what is now America. This was in the 1600s. The first of the grandfather clocks in America arrived with them. This distant past is evidenced by the remaining long case clocks displayed in historical museums. This goes to show how long ago these clocks became part of the family households.
When the wars abroad ceased from the 1940s-1950s, life slowly returned to normal. It was the time of the greasers and the preppies. It was the time of Bill Hayley, Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis and screen idols James Dean and Marlon Brando. These icons inflamed the emerging teenage cult. All through these upheavals, the grandfather clocks kept time to the major changes in the home front and around the world.
In the 1960s-1970s, another war was waged and ended in the same decade. Sadly, a famous president was assassinated but on the upside, the first man landed on the moon. Then The Beatles, The Hollies, and the Rolling Stones invaded the youth scene and music was never the same again. It was the height of the flower generation and the hippies. Still the grandfather clocks kept on, ticking without missing a beat.
The Past and the Present
In all households, affluent or not, family traditions were kept. Family reunions, weddings, birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas holidays were forever celebrated. Heirlooms were passed on to the next generation, including priceless grandfather clocks.
Top Choices for Grandfather Clocks
If there is no chance to get into a time machine and go back to relive happy family celebrations, there is an alternative – grandfather clocks. Recreate the magic of yesterday – dinner with the grandparents, mom’s steaming chicken soup, and dad’s comforting embrace. An antique reproduction of a grandfather clock ticking in time will enhance the magic which you want to share with your own family.
Purchase the Howard Miller Raymour Clock with confidence. It carries the Howard Miller tradition of top caliber craftsmanship and premium materials. This floor clock has the traditional look of the antique grandfather clocks recreated in Windsor cherry on hardwood specially selected for the purpose. An illuminated case shows off the mesmerizing swing of the polished brass pendulum and weights. On those rainy days or after a tough day at the office, listen to the lilt of the Westminster chimes. It brings on a good feeling, so much like home.
The Howard Miller Veronica Grandfather Clock is made in the classic Victorian style and it shows off elegant details, such as satin Windsor Cherry finish, an ornate pediment matched with ornate carving on the base, crystal cut glass for the center disk, highly polished brass, astrological Blue Moon dial and back-lit pierced stars, and a polished lyre pendulum.
The Howard Miller Cosmopolitan Grandfather Clock has a contemporary design that will appeal to those who want the features of the grandfather clock but with less ornate details. It has a European look and a unique porcelain dial and black modern numerals.
There are still several models to choose from to complement your style. You can also get them at affordable prices. Since these are going to be valued family heirlooms, choose the best that your money can buy – and celebrate the times of your life.

turning in MAC eyeshadow for lipsticks….?
i have heard that if you buy MAC products that have that little white symbol on them you can turn them in when you are done and get a free gift… can anyone answer these questions for me:
1) is it just the eyeshadow pots? can you turn in (pre-made) quads also?
2) will they accept eyeshadow containers that have been depotted?
3) how many items do you need to get the free gift?
4) i have a few empty 15 palettes… should i depot my MAC cult of cherry Chocolate Quad, place the shadows in the empty 15 palette and turn in the empty quad? would that count as 4 or 1 item?
im new to this so any help would be appreciated
p.s i depotted all my single shadows last nite and knock on wood i didnt break any hehe
1. You can turn in the quads, but they will count as one item.
2. NO – This is what I was told on last week when I went.
3. You Will need to turn in 6 items (eyeshadow, foundations, lipsticks, lip glosses, etc) Basically, you can turn in just about everything except for pencils that have to be sharpened.
